According to the weather, we have 6 more weeks of summer but according to the calendar, it’s almost fall. You know what that means…colorful leaves, football, and pumpkin spice lattes (I honestly don’t get the hype about PSL.) But PSL flavored everything hitting the Starbucks menu heralds the beginning of my favorite season. Time to swap sundresses and flip flops for cardigans and booties. It also means it’s time to swap your lightweight summer skincare staples for option with a little more body. Here are a few things you should consider to change up your regimen to get your skin through these cooler months.
- Try a thicker moisturizer. I know you love the feeling of your lightweight, oil-free gel moisturizer as it melts into your skin in the summer. I do too. But in colder months, our skin needs a bit more help. Try a more unctuous moisturizer for fall that is loaded with antioxidants.
- Reduce the number of times you exfoliate. You probably only need to exfoliate 1-2 times a week during the fall. Exfoliate with enzymes instead of acids since they tend to be more gentle on the skin since they target “dead” skin and leave healthy skin cells intact.
- Try adding a facial oil to your routine. It can give your skin an extra dose of needed nourishment after being in the harsh summer sun. Either apply before your moisturizer or incorporate a few drops in with a dollop of your moisturizer for a surge of added hydration. CarmaBella Skincare probably has a facial oil that suits your needs.
- Turn down the temp in the shower. I know we all love how a great a hot shower feels, but hot water can strip your skin of essential oils which can leave it feeling dry and itchy. A great tip for after you shower and before you dry off is to slather your skin in body oil, then dry off as you normally would. After you are dry, apply a lotion or body butter for additional moisture. Trust me on this one. You will love the way your skin feels.
